Coming to the January '09 issue of Corvette Fever: Features on some Vettes that have gone the distance. How far of a distance? Is nearly 2.8 million miles far enough ?
They're daily-driven examples of the first three Corvette generations. The C1 is Pat Garrahan's '57, that sports a Rochester fuel injection unit from a '59 atop its original 283. It's covered about 700,000 miles (and counting) in daily use, as well as trips around and from California's Central Valley.
Then there's the specially-unequipped '65 Sting Ray coupe that's been Bob McInturff's daily driver for the last 42 years. "Specially unequipped" means no fuelie or 396, no knock-off wheels or side pipes. These weren't on when the original owner (who sold it to Bob after a year) didn't order them on.Bob's done alright without them, as his midyear has now covered over 400,000 miles.
And there's also the '78 of John Huette, who's logged over 700,000 miles with it since he bought it (as a 25th Anniversary Edition) off of a showroom floor.
What's their secret to long Vette life?
Check it out when the January '09 issue of Corvette Fever comes out in mid-November.
