Apparently, the phrase "Win On Sunday, Sell On Monday" will take on additional meaning in the American LeMans Series (ALMS) in 2009. Especially when it comes to Corvette Racing.
That's because Corvette Racing will bring out an all-new, Pratt & Miller-built C.6R to run in the latter half of the '09 ALMS season, following the 24 Hours of LeMans. From what we hear, this all-new racing Vette will run in the ALMS GT2 class, and will be based on the production C6 (more so than the C6R that's running up front--and winning--in GT1).
Furthermore, this new car will be THE car that Corvette Racing takes to the track for 2010, under the new-for-'10 rules that GT cars will race under. That means a naturally-aspirated 5.5 liter V8, derived from the 6.0 liter LS7 that'll power the car in '09.The chassis and powertrain are up for homologation approval by the ALMS's sanctioning bodies, the FIA and the ACO (Automobile Club de l'Ouest). GM and Corvette Racing wouldn't be doing this if they had GT to themselves for '09 and beyond--they've got Dodge (Viper), Panoz, BMW, Ford, Aston Martin AND Ferrari to contend with, as they'll all have GT2 cars in the ALMS next year, which'll likely be their 2010-later entrants in the GT class.
And they'll be trying to match Corvette's "Win On Sunday, Sell On Monday" history.
