For years, the Henry Ford Museum outside Detroit had an annual "Sports Cars In Review" show during the winter. Naturally, "America's Only True Sports Car" was represented, by current-model Vettes as well as locally-owned ones getting a chance to shine on a winter weekend. In that spirit, check out these Vettes--and their owners' stories--from the "Your Rides In The Spotlight" archives.
VetteCavCharles BattershellGoodyear, Arizona2003 Corvette Z062008 Corvette Z06I was a member of the 1st Air Cavalry stationed in Bien Hoa, Vietnam, 1971-1972.As a crew chief on UH-1D/H helicopters. I flew with the Black Bandits of the legendary A Company, 229Th AHBN. Yes we have three Congressional Medal of Honor winners in my outfit. We were in the movie, We Were Soldiers. I kept a picture of a silver 1971 LT1 Corvette in my hooch, and that's what kept me going--to one day own my own Corvette. Well, 35 years later, I finally got what I really wanted--a pair of Z06's: A 2003 C5, and a 2008 C6. Both of them black, of course. I was part of the group of men that defined Air Assault, so both cars proudly display the 1st Cav patch as well as the Air Assault badge.

The latest acquisition is a white 2005 convertible 6-speed with the Z51 package. Our first Vette is an unrestored but slightly modified 1975 4-speed coupe. The car was originally painted Medium Saddle Metallic; however, it is now painted Toronado gold. Our favorite car is a numbers-matching, 1965 396/425hp convertible, red with red interior and white top. This car underwent a total body-off restoration during 2005, and it now looks and feels like a new car. Our 8-car garage/den includes black-white checkered floor tile, central A/C, 3 TV's and a bar. All we need now are Corvettes dated 1955, 1985, and 1995!
