Smallblock, big block, LS-engine or Blue Flame Six...no matter what's under a Corvette's hood, there's always a story behind the car.
That includes these two recent reader's rides.
Answered PrayerJames A. Lloyd Jr.Raleigh, North Carolina’68 Corvette convertibleWho says God doesn’t answer prayers of a ten-year-old boy? Thirty-seven years later, my prayers were answered.
When the third-generation Corvette body style was introduced for 1968, I was ten years old. I saw it, and I knew that one day, one would be mine. I thought that would be when I was 16, but it took quite a while longer before I had the Vette of my prayers. That turned out to be this one--a ’68 equipped with an L36 390-horsepower 427 and a 4-speed. This matching-numbers convertible is finished in International Blue with a white convertible top.I upgraded the stereo system, chromed it up under the hood and added a set of 17-inch wheels, just as if I was 16 all over again. I throw the top down whenever I can, and drive it whenever I can—just like I’ve always wanted to do.
Dad’s (Other) Pride & JoyLloyd ElstroPhoenix Arizona’98 Corvette coupe(As written by his daughter, Amanda)Lloyd Elstro’s Corvette turns heads on roadways and stops traffic in parking lots. It’s hard to believe that an already gorgeous car could possibly look any better; however, my dad has devoted his time and attention to his baby! Nothing went unattended. That included everything from lowering it (1 ¾ inches in front, 2 inches in back) to covering every visible screw, nut and bolt with a chrome cover. He also added front bumper cold air ducts, Z06 and LS1 emblems, plus a chrome rear axle exhaust plate and awesome custom pin-striping.Under the hood is a K&N air intake, a Corsa exhaust system, chrome fuel rail cover striping and fluid filler cap covers, slotted and drilled brake rotors, powder-coated calipers, Z06 rear brake cooling ducts, a front brake air flow package, OEM chrome wheels and chrome valve stem caps.Don’t forget the personalized plate XXCELR8, which it does best!
