Original and unrestored, this 1965 Sting Ray convertible was once owned by the founder of Corvettes at Carlisle, the late Chip Miller, and it is certainly easy to see why: it is quite simply a fabulous example of the ’65 model. There is something about the patina on an original older Vette that is very stirring; witness the Nassau Blue paint (one of the best Corvette colors ever) and the matching two-tone White-on-Blue interior, both in excellent condition. While forty-five years have passed since it was built, the car still has that characteristic “brand new” feel that is so evocative to the Vette aficionado.
Under the hood is the immensely popular L76, the 365-horse 327 that was ordered by over 5,000 buyers in 1965, almost exclusively in conjunction with the M20 4-speed. Here as elsewhere, everything is unchanged, a slight film of oxidation on the cast iron exhaust one of the few obvious indicators of time’s passage. The theme of originality carries through from its soft and hard tops right down to the pavement, as this appealing Sting Ray classic still rolls on the original non-DOT tires wrapped around genuine Kelsey-Hayes aluminum knock-off wheels.
