The “Corvette Faithful” will make their way to Effingham, Illinois once again this September 24-27 to attend the world’s largest gathering of Corvettes: Mid America Motorworks' Corvette Funfest.
Mid America Motorworks will cap off its 35th Anniversary this coming September 24th through the 27th at its 150-acre corporate campus during the 16th Annual Corvette Funfest. Always considered a “must attend” for Corvette enthusiasts, show organizers promise this year to be even bigger and better!
The weekend of Corvette festivities kicks off with a line up of special events on Thursday, September 24th, beginning with “Lunch with Mike” – where you'll enjoy a fun lunch with Mid America Motorworks’ owner and president, Mike Yager. Then all Corvettes (and their owners) are invited to participate in the popular “Fun Run” – a scenic road trip through the Central Illinois countryside. Thursday evening will wrap up with The Annual Charity Automotive Art Exhibit. This is the 5th and final year for the black-tie-optional event that is held around the world famous Chevy bow-tie pool at the home of Mike and Laurie Yager. (Advance registration is required for all the special Thursday events.)New this year is a Corvette-only car auction held Friday afternoon, September 25th. This extreme competition, sure to be a crowd-pleaser, will be held on Friday and Saturday, with preliminary and finals held each day. A feature that grows in popularity each year is the Install Alley. That's where you can have everything from new exhaust systems to seat covers installed in your Corvette – while you watch and learn!
Legendary racer, Dick Guldstrand (better known as “Mr. Corvette”), and retired Corvette Chief Engineer, Dave McLellan, will be among the many Corvette dignitaries in attendance throughout the weekend.
Continuing the tradition of recognizing the decade anniversaries, Mid America Motorworks will be honoring the “9’s in ’09”. All 1959s, '69s, '79s, '89s, '99s, and 2009s will be featured in a specially-designated area on the Funfest Show Field. Additionally, owners of 1974 Corvettes (the same year Mid America was incorporated) are invited to join in the recognition of Mid America Motorworks’ 35th Anniversary, and they'll a special parking area, as well. (Advance registration is required for the specialty parking areas.)Other Saturday evening festivities include two concerts. The opening band is The Jan & Dean Show, accompanied by OC Beach Band, followed by the Grammy-award-winning group, Survivor. The evening will close with a fireworks display.The popular MY Garage Corvette Museum and Retail Store will be open all weekend. Other features include seminars led by Corvette industry leaders, the “Corvettes for Sale” Corral, a special Ladies’ Zone, and a “Kids Driving Corvettes” program.Of course, a bevy of Corvette Engineers will be on hand and this year they’ll be bringing a string of new 2010 Grand Sports!
