While the new 1963 Sting Ray offered Corvette fans a coupe version for the very first time, the convertible was still the essence of the marque, outselling the coupe version by 500 units in a record year. Vette buyers also had access to the fuel-injected 327/360 hp small block that was the darling of the automotive press and the heart of the vaunted Z06. In fact, for many, the “fuelie” convertible was still the only way to go.

Mecum to Auction '63 BG Survior/Benchmark & Certified Winner

That sentiment gave rise forty-six years ago to the Riverside Red convertible offered here, and it must have remained strong indeed, because it is one of very few that have earned the Bloomington Gold Survivor Award. That title can only go to an unrestored original car such as this, which has also won Bloomington Certified and Benchmark honors.

As a Survivor, the car has acquired the polish of its years of careful use. The Red finish is unmistakably original yet still brilliant, and the Black cockpit clean and very fresh in presentation. The underhood area still shows original factory markings and the Rochester fuel injected 327 is exceptionally sanitary.

Built for speed and open-air motoring and now a triple Bloomington winner, this is every bit the classic Sting Ray fuelie convertible.

Highlights:
