Nowadays, "LT1" is one of the engines in the high-tech LS-series of powerplants that have graced C5 and C6 Corvettes. The Corvette team didn't just pick that engine designation out of thin air--they used a famous one from Corvette history.

This coming January 28-31, one of the original early'70s chrome-bumper LT-1 powered Corvettes will go up for bids at Mecum's Kissimmee (FL) collector-car auction.

The last of the all-chrome-bumper Corvettes, the 1972 Stingray was also the last model powered by Chevrolet’s fantastic solid-lifter LT-1 small block. Few were built; of total '72 Corvette production of 27,004, only 1,741 were LT-1 equipped, and of those few, today only a small elite group shares this car’s stature as a multiple Bloomington Gold winner. Original and unrestored, this 1972 LT-1 convertible is a completely unique specimen that has earned Certified, Survivor and Benchmark laurels.

Another triple Bloomington (Gold, Benchmark & Survivor) winner coming to Kissimmee: this LT-1 powered '72 Stingray.

A true driver’s Corvette that was delivered without power assists for steering or brakes (or air conditioning, not available with RPO LT1 until '72), the car retains its original and rare Sunflower Yellow paint, matching Yellow hardtop and Black interior, all of which are in exceptional condition and, on the whole, make for an especially attractive example (check out that beautiful side profile photo!). The high-winding 350 engine and Muncie four-speed at the core of this car’s tremendous collector value are reference-grade, all matching-numbers and correct date codes.

This amazing, well-documented Survivor LT-1 convertible will please the most critical collector.

Highlights:
- Sunflower Yellow with Black interior
- 350/255 HP RPO LT1 engine
- 4-speed transmission
- Original and unrestored
- Bloomington Gold Certified
- Bloomington Gold Survivor
- Bloomington Gold Benchmark
- Power windows
